On my recent trip to Tenerife, I had a brain wave, I thought – how far could someone staying in Los Cristianos or Playa de Las Americas who had a hire car get in 30 minutes driving East? So, I set off and found that I could get as far as Junction (Salida) 16 on the TF1 which is Las Eras in Arico.

Tuesday, 30 September 2008

At the annual world cheese awards held this year in Dublin (29th September), a Tenerife cheese was officially voted as the best cheese in the world.

The grand jury tied 4 cheeses as the best  after a 'sudden death' type vote with the 12 judges choosing their favorite from the 12 that had made the final.

Amongst the 4 winning cheeses was a Tenerife Cheese, made by Arico Cheeses of Tenerife.

The Tenerife Cheese was a cured goat's cheese with a paprika (pimentón) and roasted maize meal mixed with sugar (gofío) rind.
