Could we have found one of the most eco friendly restaurants in Tenerife?
(Saturday, 22 December 2012) Written by hopper

There are some many 'buzz words' associated with eco friendly dinning these days. From sustainable farming to food miles, today's dinners want to know more about where the food they are consuming has come from and how it got to their plate. Whilst this is something that is very difficult to do in Tenerife as much of the produce used by the local restaurants has to be imported to the island, clearly the fact that Tenerife is a large rock rising out of the Atlantic Ocean, it's quite safe to assume that much of the fish has been either caught or farmed locally in Tenerife.

Eco Friendly Restautant in Tenerife

This is certainly the case for the many small fishing villages dotted around the coast of Tenerife, which play host to some seriously good quality restaurants who specialise in fish dishes. One of our favourite fishing villages is Los Abrigos which we visit regularly when we are over in Tenerife, here you will find not only a Michelin listed restaurant (Los Roques) but you will also find what has to be one of the most eco friendly restaurants anywhere in the world!

Restaurant Los Abrigos is nestled into the heart of the marina, quite literally less than 10 yards from the waters edge so any of the fish used by this restaurant has to have its food miles measured in feet and inches!

Now I understand that there are probably 1000's of similar positioned restaurants throughout the world but what makes Restaurant Los Abrigos different to most is that it also has its own fishing boat that is moored right in front of their establishment. This facility means that it is practically impossible to get fish that is any fresher or more eco friendly anywhere else in the world!

So, if you find yourself in Tenerife and fancying a bit of fish, you should try Los Abrigos and in particular the Restaurante Los Abrigos, which is quite possibly one of the ‘least food miles’ restaurants in the world!
