Las Eras, Tenerife
(Tuesday, 07 October 2008) Written by hopper

On my recent trip to Tenerife, I had a brain wave, I thought – how far could someone staying in Los Cristianos or Playa de Las Americas who had a hire car get in 30 minutes driving East? So, I set off and found that I could get as far as Junction (Salida) 16 on the TF1 which is Las Eras in Arico.

Las Eras is a very quaint Tenerife fishing village that is ‘off the beaten track’ as far as the tourist trail is concerned.

As with most Tenerife villages and Towns, Las Eras has grown up around the square with a bar and a restaurant for people to sit and relax in this quite haven.

You can wander through the streets and down to the small beach area where, when I visited, there were only 2 people sunbathing. The lack of bars and restaurants near to the beach would suggest that this is probably the same on most days and was not entirely due to the building work that was going on here thanks to an EEC grant of €604,000 to upgrade the beach area and the breakwater.

So here I was, in a beautiful Tenerife fishing village, with hardly anyone around and then I spotted 2 divers emerging from the water and walking towards the road side at the edge of the beach. As they were taking their Kit off, I noticed it was Geoff of Undersea Adventures Dive Center, someone who I have dived with on many occasions, I could not believe it!

After taking to Geoff and his dive buddy and being told about how great the diving was in Las Eras, I got in the car and travelled to the edge of the village where on the headland there was a stunning seating area where you can stop and look out over yet another nice and equally as quite bay.

If you want to go and see Tenerife then you need to get out of the main tourist areas and travel the island. There are a great number of quaint and beautiful places to visit whilst on your Tenerife holiday, many of which are within 30 Minutes (by car) from the main tourist areas of Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos.
