When in Tenerife, try a Barraquito
(Friday, 20 October 2006) Written by hopper

Often when we are in Tenerife - OK, thats not quite true, almost everytime when we are in Tenerife, my wife loves to finish her meal off with a Barraquito. This is no ordinary Coffee, its a special Tenerife Coffee and something you really must try or so my wife tells me! Personally, I'll stick to my Cappuchino and another G&T!

Simply put, a Barraquito is the Tenerife equivilent of an Irish Coffee however, it looks totally different.

The Barraquite is made from, Espresso Coffee, Milk, Brandy, Condensed Milk, sometimes it also contains Lemon Peel and is then topped with Cinnaman. The art of making a Barraquito in Tenerife is to make it so that the layers all float on top of each other, like in the picture.

Almost every Tenerife Restuarent will be able to make one for you, just ask - however I am reliably informed that the best Barraquito on the island is to be found at El Medano, in the square at the local government run cafe bar.

That is unless you know any different!
