Tenerife has been an inspiration to many famous people, infact, recently whilst surfing the net about Tenerife I came across a reference to Agatha Christie and her visit to Tenerife in 1927.

It was reported that whilst disillusioned with her husband’s infidelity, Agatha Chrisite came to Tenerife with her daughter Rosalyn for a holiday in 1927.

This holiday was shortly before their divorce in 1928 and whilst on this holiday, she stayed with the Smith family at Camino Sitio Litre (Puerto de La Cruz) which is a private residence that is famed for its Orchid Garden and is open to the public.

Whilst on this holiday, Agatha gained the inspiration for her collection of stories ‘The Mysterious Mr. Quin’ which was published in 1930 and based in Puerto de las Cruz.

Another of her published works, ‘The Companion’ – part of the Miss Marple series was also based on Tenerife. It’s a story of how 2 English women go to Tenerife but only 1 of them returns.
