Dolphins in Tenerife

With over 28 species of Whale and Dolphins to be found in the waters around the Canary Islands, Tenerife is without doubt one of the best locations in the world to go Whale or Dolphin spotting.

Pilot Whales and Bottlenose Dolphins reside in the waters of the South West Coast of Tenerife, this means that you are almost guaranteed to spot either or both on any Whale or Dolphin excursion you take from Tenerife.

There are many boats which are available to take you out Whale and Dolphin spotting in Tenerife, they are mainly to be found in  Los Gigantes, Los Cristianos or Porto Colon.

Recently (in the last 12 years or so) the whole Whale and Dolphin Watching experience in Tenerife has changed and much of this changed with a greater emphasis being placed on conservation and education.

One of the main reasons for this is the work undertaken by the Atlantic Whale Foundation. Their web site is a great source of information about Whale and Dolphin Watching in Tenerife. Visit the site and you will get a feel for the great work that this foundation undertakes here in Tenerife.

Did one of these trips from Los Gigantes. Was wonderful. Highly recommended not least for the wonderful views on return of the Los Gigantes cliffs.
