It has been announced recently by the Tenerife Councillor for Sports (Damaso Arteage) that Atogo (situated near to the Reina Sophia Airport – in the South of Tenerife) has been chosen as the site for the construction of a Motor Sports Centre.

Tenerife Motor Racing Circuit

This Tenerife Motor Sports Centre (CIDEM – Centro Insular de Deportes de Motor) will be used for Car Rallying, Motorbike Racing and it is also expected to play a major part in the development of F1 Racing when it is used as a practise circuit for both drivers and cars alike.

Whilst it is expected to be quite some time before the circuit is ready for use, the Tenerife Local Government have already pledged (and put aside) over 3million euros to help in the development of the track.

It is envisaged that the circuit will not only provide a focal point for the many motor sports enthusiasts who live on Tenerife but it is expected that the circuit will host major regional as well as national events. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that once completed the CIDEM will be used to stage some International competitions.

Will we yet see the Tenerife branch of the Tifosi cheering on a Ferrari to victory on a  Tenerife motor racing circuit?

Hello,
You have made my day in reading this article, my wife and I will be moving to Tenerife shortly to live and this would be the icing on the cake. I am a major motor sport fan so this is a dream come true. I am 100% confident with the Government of Tenerife, you only have to look at the massive development of the Siam Park, so the Motor sport center will happen, congratulations to Tenerife and Tenerife Times for a great news paper, all the best, kindest regards, Roger Hill.
