I recently received and email from the Tourist Office here in Tenerife asking me if I knew the connection between Tenerife and Miami. I had to confess I didn’t, do you?

Miami Dade County, twinned with Tenerife, Canary Islands

Did you know that Tenerife is twinned with Miami Dade County, Florida, USA?

Miami Dade County Sister Cities Program Goodwill Mission to Tenerife takes place January 20-24, 2008, in association with the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife
.
Miami-Dade County and Tenerife are celebrating 15 years of a Sister Cities affiliation. The purpose of the mission is to highlight the existing strong relationship Miami Dade County enjoys with Tenerife and to explore new ways to increase bilateral relations that can result in new opportunities for the mutual benefit of the residents of the two communities.

The Mission will be headed by Miami Dade County Commissioner Rebecca Sosa and participants include representatives from the Office of the Mayor, Miami Dade Aviation Department (responsible for Miami International Airport), the Port of Miami, the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, as well as private individuals and business people.

PS: Miami, Florida is the county seat of Miami-Dade County.
