Q: We are thinking of hiring a car for our holiday in Tenerife and we were wondering what the petrol prices were like on Tenerife, can you give us an indication of what we are likely to have to pay, so we can see if its worth while? Elanor Davies A: Hi Elanor, thanks for your question, here’s my take on the matter.
With the cost of a barrel of Brent Crude Oil having gone through the roof recently, fuel prices in Tenerife have increased much the same as anywhere else in Europe.
With the petrol in the UK at £1.15 per litre for unleaded and the € standing at around €1.20 to the £, Tenerife petrol prices are still way behind the UK (equivalent to €1.38/litre) but it is interesting to compare the prices I made in a post back in October 2006 when petrol was then only €0.79/litre. Petrol pump prices in Tenerife have risen by around 25% in less than 2 years however, in the same perid of time, the cost of a barrel of Brent Crude has risen from only $75 per barrel (October 2006) to over $130 a barrel in todays market, that's a rise of over 73%, making Tenerife STILL a relatively inexpensive place to hire a car and to drive around the island. Enjoy your Tenerife holiday and Tenerife car hire. |
