Tenerife based rock band Meridian Zero have taken first prize (and €6000 in prize money) in the 20th Bilbock festival. The festival is held every year in Bilbao Spain where 48 bands were selected from the entrants to perform in free concerts to the public.
3 finalists were then selected for each of the two catagores of Metal and Pop-Rock. Tenerife’s Meridian Zero were joined in the Metal Final by Dead Means Nothing (Navarra, Spain) and Sounds of Silence (Asturia, Spain).
They played a 30 min set performing the tracks: - In the night,
- Dark days,
- Sirens, One nation (in protest of globalisation),
- Fighting to arrive (a theme about the African emigration)
- and finally "Tassat" (their only Spanish track).
Not only did Meridian Zero win the Metal section, they also carried off the overall title, best vocalist award and best guitar award.
