Looking for Jobs in Tenerife...? Look no further. Read my personal experiences and find out about the resources available for job hunters here on the island...

I've been in Tenerife now for close to 2 years and one of the first things I learnt was that looking for Jobs in Tenerife is nothing like looking for jobs in the UK.

It's back to the old school, knocking on doors, speaking with friends and chasing that elusive job because here in Tenerife you will always find plenty of work to look for and plenty of jobs on offer but actually getting a job is a different beast.

The first thing I realised is that you cannot look for Jobs in Tenerife as you would in the UK. As an IT contractor I simply sent a whole bunch of e-mails out and sure enough within the next week or so I'd have work. It might not have been the work I wanted but it paid the bills.

One thing I have always found easy is making new friends, networking and finding opportunities and these skills came in very useful looking for a job here in Tenerife because looking for a job is a job in itself.

With little command of Spanish and a reasonably good sense of direction I hit the streets. I must have visited over 100 hotels by the time the first offer of an interview came through but by then I had a stack of business cards, contacts and I'd worked out which hotels were part of a group, where their head offices were and who was the head of resources. This information came in useful later but I'll write more about that in another post.

One thing that always came back to me was the appalling lack of resources available for people looking for a job in Tenerife so I set about designing Jobs in Tenerife so that other like minded individuals might have a slightly easier time looking for a job here in Tenerife. It's a free website for all to use, register, search and place jobs and is also available in Spanish.

As with all my private projects it started pretty slowly and sat on the web for quite a while attracting no interest until Google got it’s teeth into it and as I’d done my research, using the keywords Jobs in Tenerife ensured it received a high rank in Google when the search was executed.

Feel free to use the site, it is being constantly developed and updated and although companies over here aren’t that big on CV repositories I’ll certainly be putting a facility o there for prospective employers to search through prospective candidates looking for that all elusive opportunity in the sun.

How did I get over the language barrier...? Well, I'll write more on that later also...
