Well, here I am, bags packed, passport in hand and pondering the magnitude of what I have chosen to do. Just been on the phone with a friend and contemplated just how insane I am but received those reassuring words friends always give which meant I only needed to chain smoke 3 cigarettes instead of the 10 I had planned.

It all started just over a week ago, well - longer than that really, but I'll write that one up another time. I basically packed my entire life into a dozen boxes and threw them in a friend's loft and now have packed all I will need into one bag. What do you need though...? Well, for me, it was simple: dive kit and the clothes I stand in...!

One thing became pretty clear this week though: you simply can't pick up and walk out of the country, well, maybe for a day or three but 2-3 months...? No. I've been on the phone constanty, booking flights, insurance, meeting friends and tieing up loose ends (sooo many loose ends) and basically getting things in order. Then there's the minor issue of where I'll be staying, who I'll be meeting and I still don't know. Serious: I could end up on the beech for my first night, just hope the Guardia Civil have a sense of humour :)

Now, like I said earlier, I've done some pretty insane things in my time, some I simply couldn't post, others would make you blush, a few would make you laugh and yeah, one or two would make you shed a tear but leaving the UK to go off to a foreign country for 2-3 months must rank up there in the top 5.

I'll post more when I find an Internet Cafe in Tenerife and settled in a little...

Hasta...
